Bally's $1.7 billion casino gets the go-ahead.

A $1.74 billion contract has been approved by the Chicago City Council to bring a Bally's Corporation casino to the city's River West area in the 27th Ward.

However, the agreement, which was forwarded to the entire council on Monday by a special committee of aldermen, was not without dispute.

Several aldermen spoke out against the project on Wednesday, criticizing Lightfoot's management of the process, claiming it was hurried and that critical disclosures and facts were not supplied upfront.

The proposal is a "failed process," according to Ald. Sigcho-Lopez of the 25th Ward, who claims the Lightfoot administration is "more concerned with campaign contributions than doing the right thing for the city of Chicago."

Lightfoot retaliated by pounding her gavel and yelling, "Sir, you are a liar. You have been placed out of order. I'm not going to sit here and watch you smear my name and the individuals that work for me."

The casino was approved by a vote of 41-7.
