A casino owner in Las Vegas surprised 5,000 employees with $5,000 bonuses.

On Wednesday, the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas surprised its over 5,000 employees with a one-time $5,000 incentive.

When Cosmopolitan CEO Bill McBeath made the announcement, the resort stated it gave a "unprecedented" $27 million to its employees during a joyous occasion that included a "climatic drumroll" and confetti.

The celebration commemorated Blackstone's almost decade-long ownership of the resort, which is currently being sold to MGM Resorts International and a real estate company.

"We realize none of this would have been possible without the hard work and devotion of the resort's incredible workers, and we are ecstatic to be able to acknowledge their achievements," Tyler Henritze said.

The bonus astonished the Cosmopolitan staffer. When the news broke, "tears and applause" filled the theater, according to a press statement.

In addition, the bonus comes at a time when firms are seeking to keep workers from looking elsewhere.
