Fraud on LinkedIn a ‘significant threat’ in USA
The scam goes like this: A fraudster poses as a professional and establishes a phony LinkedIn profile before contacting a LinkedIn member.
The fraudster begins by making small talk over LinkedIn message before offering to assist the victim in making money through a cryptocurrency investment.
According to victims questioned by CNBC, many believe the investments are real because LinkedIn is a trustworthy site for professional networking.
The fraudster usually takes the victim to a reputable cryptocurrency investing platform after winning their trust over several months.
They instruct them to transfer the funds to a site controlled by the con artist. The money is then taken out of the account.
