Gas prices surge again and hit new record highs

The "calm before the storm" looks to have passed, and the storm has arrived.

Gas prices began swiftly climbing across the United Areas yesterday, with some states witnessing increases of as much as 60 cents per gallon (Chicago) in just a few hours.

According to AAA, the national average price of gas today is $4.67 a gallon, which is a new high. That is a 5 cent increase over yesterday's price.

According to AAA, the average price in Pennsylvania set a new high of $4.78 per gallon.

National average gas "prices likely exceeding $4.70 a gallon tomorrow and could reaching $4.75," according to Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
