Montana Gov. Gianforte vacationed in Italy

Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte (R) was on vacation in Italy when catastrophic floods hit the state this week,

forcing Yellowstone National Park to close, according to his office on Friday.

Gianforte and his wife, Susan, took a "long-planned personal journey" that was cut short due to severe rainfall in southern Montana.

Due to "security concerns," the governor's administration first refused to reveal his location or indicate when he would return,

even as many questioned why Gianforte was nowhere to be

located amid the flooding that caused him to proclaim a statewide emergency.
