Steve Kerr says he and the Warriors ‘need’ Kenny Atkinson

In the hours between the Warriors' championship-clinching victory in Boston last week and their triumphant parade through the streets of this city, some shocking news regarding Kenny Atkinson emerged.

Atkinson reportedly decided to accept the position of head coach for the Charlotte Hornets during the Finals.

Atkinson changed his mind soon after the Warriors won their fourth championship in eight years.

He was moving up to replace associate head coach Mike Brown, who left to coach the Kings, while remaining in Golden State as an assistant coach on Steve Kerr's staff.

Atkinson, a former head coach of the Brooklyn Nets, chose to remain, but why? Kerr expressed his ideas,

"We live in a lovely area of the nation, we have excellent players, and we're in a great spot."

"I think it's an extremely difficult thing to try to take a job in the middle of the Finals without really getting a chance to unwind," Kerr said.
