Tesla's Autopilot chief quits company

The leader of Tesla's contentious "Autopilot" program announced his resignation on Wednesday,

only weeks after news of an extended government investigation into the driver-assistance feature's safety leaked.

"It's been a real joy to assist Tesla achieve its goals over the last 5 years, and

it's been a painful choice to part ways," Andrej Karpathy said in a tweet Wednesday afternoon.

"During that time, Autopilot progressed from lane keeping to city streets,

and I am excited to see the incredibly skilled Autopilot team maintain that momentum."
