Three potential Islanders targets during NHL free agency

Johnny Gaudreau, LW
Lou Lamoriello would have to make some adjustments in order to make room for the talented winger, but Gaudreau would be of immeasurable assistance to the Islanders.

Nothing short of bringing in the league's second-leading scorer of points from the previous season would move them closer to a Stanley Cup.

Ilya Mikheyev, LW/RW
The Islanders' best European scout, Jim Paliafito, discovered Mikheyev as an undrafted free agent in Russia a couple years ago.

By acquiring Alexander Romanov through trade, Lamoriello allayed concerns about Russian players at the draft, and Mikheyev scored 20 goals at a position of need last season.

Mason Marchment, LW/RW
Marchment, a two-way winger who Lamoriello signed with the Maple Leafs as an undrafted free agent in 2018, is another guy with a front-office link who makes sense.
